 Olivia Hussey, the actor who starred as a teenage Juliet in the 1968 film “Romeo and Juliet,” has died, her family said on social media Saturday. She was 73.

Olivia Hussey, the acclaimed actress best known for portraying Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet," passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 73. She died peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones. 

Born Olivia Osuna on April 17, 1951, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she moved to London at age seven and trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Her breakout role as Juliet, cast when she was just 15, earned her a Golden Globe for Best New Star. 

Throughout her career, Hussey took on diverse roles, including Mary in the 1977 miniseries "Jesus of Nazareth," Rosalie Otterbourne in "Death on the Nile" (1978), and appearances in horror films like "Black Christmas" (1974) and "Psycho IV: The Beginning" (1990). She also ventured into voice acting for video games, contributing to titles such as "Star Wars: The Old Republic." 

In recent years, Hussey and her "Romeo and Juliet" co-star Leonard Whiting filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures, alleging they were filmed nude without consent during the production. The case was dismissed in 2023. 

Hussey is survived by her husband, musician David Glen Eisley, her three children, and a grandson. Her passing marks the end of a significant era in film history, but her performances, especially as Juliet, will continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
