The Movie' Sets Sights on Surpassing 'Saiyaara' and 'Awarapan 2'

Box Office Buzz: 'Mirzapur: The Movie' Sets Sights on Surpassing 'Saiyaara' and 'Awarapan 2'

Summary: A Major Box Office Triumph for Non-Starer Franchise Cinema

The feature-length adaptation Mirzapur: The Movie is witnessing massive momentum at the box office, generating intense buzz across mass centers and single-screen circuits.

Expanding on the massive popularity of the digital franchise, the movie opened to a staggering ₹24.47 crore net on its first day, putting it comfortably ahead of notable hits such as

Saiyaara (₹22 crore) and Awarapan 2 (₹21.89 crore).

Driven by a massive cult following, high single-ticket turnout in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets, and positive critical reception, the action thriller continues its strong theatrical run as it charges toward major lifetime collection milestones.

The transition of hit streaming intellectual properties to the silver screen has reached a historic turning point with Mirzapur: The Movie.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film has shattered traditional industry expectations by relying on powerful characters rather than conventional A-list stardom.

From the moment advanced bookings opened, single-screen circuits in heartland regions like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar registered record footfalls, pushing opening weekend projections to unmatched heights.

With a domestic opening day gross crossing ₹24 crore, the film outperformed other big-ticket releases of the season, including Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 (₹21.89 crore opening) and the romantic drama Saiyaara (₹22 crore opening).

The story functions as an interquel set parallel to the events of the series' first season, offering fans an expansive big-screen experience while remaining accessible to general moviegoers. Strong evening and night show occupancies continue to sustain its momentum, proving that digital IPs can command long-term theatrical viability.

  • Massive Audience Pull: Enormous hype across Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities drives heavy spot-bookings and sustained multi-week performance.

  • Star Power & Ensemble Cast: Standout performances by Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, and Jitendra Kumar anchor the film's narrative draw.

  • Mass Center Domination: Mass-belt territories are outperforming traditional metropolitan multiplex centers in overall theatrical shares.

  • Box Office Record: Outpaces major releases like Saiyaara and Awarapan 2 in first-day collection tallies.

Key Highlights

  • Opening Day Revenue: Made an explosive start with ₹24.47 crore domestic net earnings.

  • Global Footprint: Crosses ₹300+ crore gross worldwide, securing a spot among the year's top Hindi releases.

  • Industry Precedent: Marks one of the most successful adaptations of an Indian streaming series into a mainstream theatrical blockbuster.

'Mirzapur' Film Adds Powerhouse Talent: Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan Join the Cast

The highly anticipated film adaptation of the popular web series "Mirzapur" is expanding its universe with the addition of two stellar actors.

Acclaimed actor Jitendra Kumar, known for his roles in "Panchayat" and "Kota Factory," and Bhojpuri superstar-politician Ravi Kishan have officially joined the cast of the crime thriller.

This exciting development comes as the original cast, including Pankaj Tripathi (Kaleen Bhaiya), Ali Fazal (Guddu Pandit), and Divyenndu (Munna Tripathi), are set to reprise their iconic roles for the big screen.

The film, tentatively titled "Mirzapur: The Film," was officially launched with a mahurat puja ceremony, which was attended by both Kumar and Kishan.

While details about their characters are being kept under wraps as a "big surprise for the fans," their inclusion has significantly heightened the anticipation for the movie.

It is not yet clear if they will portray new characters or take on roles familiar to the series' viewers.

Pre-production work, including look tests and reading sessions, is already underway, with both new actors actively participating.

Filming is expected to commence next month.

The movie, directed by Gurmmeet Singh and created by Puneet Krishna, marks a significant milestone as the first Indian web series to be adapted into a feature film.

It is slated for a theatrical release in 2026. Ali Fazal has previously hinted that the film might explore events from the past, suggesting a possible prequel element to the storyline.
