Principal photography has officially begun on Samuk, an ambitious sci-fi survival action-thriller starring Akshay Kumar. The project marks a high-profile reunion between Kumar and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah after 12 years, with Kanishk Varma directing. 

Blending military realism, survival horror, and extraterrestrial mythology, Samuk features an elite international creative team aiming to bring Hollywood-grade practical creature effects and high-octane action to Indian cinema ahead of its planned 2027 theatrical release.

Samuk enters production as one of the most technically ambitious projects in modern Hindi cinema. Backed by Sunshine Pictures and Cape of Good Films, the movie spent over two years in active narrative and creature design development. Akshay Kumar stars as Vivaan Ahuja, an operative operating within a high-stakes survival environment inspired by elite security forces like the Special Protection Group (SPG).

The production kicked off its multi-week principal photography schedule in London, where roughly 90% of the film will be shot, with remaining schedules planned for Mumbai. 

Rather than relying exclusively on digital visual effects, director Kanishk Varma and producer Vipul Shah have committed to tactile, old-school practical creature horror. 

To execute this vision, the studio enlisted Oscar-nominated creature FX designer Alec Gillis (Alien, Predator, Alien: Romulus) to design the central extraterrestrial threat, paired with British stunt coordinator Luke Tumber to direct the physical action set-pieces.
