Hrithik Roshan and NTR WAR 2 Movie Review – Story, Performances, Direction & Audience Verdict

"War 2": A High-Octane Spectacle That Divides Audiences

The highly anticipated action extravaganza, "War 2," stormed into theaters on August 14, 2025, marking the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film sees the return of Hrithik Roshan as the formidable agent Kabir Dhaliwal, pitted against a new adversary played by Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Hindi film debut.

While the film has generated significant buzz and a strong opening at the box office, it has been met with a mixed bag of reactions from critics and audiences alike.

Story: A Familiar Tale of Betrayal and Vengeance

The plot of "War 2" follows the rogue agent Kabir, who is now accused of betraying the nation.

Tasked with hunting him down is a top-tier special units officer, Vikram, portrayed by Jr. NTR.

What ensues is a globe-trotting cat-and-mouse game filled with explosive action sequences and elaborate set pieces.

The narrative takes a turn when it's revealed that Kabir's actions are a calculated move to expose a clandestine organization.

The story also delves into the shared past of Kabir and Vikram, who are revealed to be childhood friends.

While the premise promises high stakes and emotional depth, several critics have pointed to a predictable and "threadbare" storyline that leans heavily on familiar spy-thriller tropes.

Performances: A Powerhouse Face-Off

A major highlight of "War 2" is the on-screen chemistry and dynamic between its two leads. Hrithik Roshan reprises his role as Kabir with his signature suave and intense screen presence.

Jr. NTR makes a powerful Bollywood debut, matching Roshan's energy and delivering a compelling performance as the relentless Vikram.

Their combined star power and action sequences are a significant draw for the film. Kiara Advani stars as Wing Commander Kavya Luthra, though some reviews suggest her role has limited scope.

The supporting cast includes veteran actors Ashutosh Rana and the addition of Anil Kapoor to the spy universe.

Direction: Grand Scale with Narrative Flaws

Ayan Mukerji, taking the directorial reins from Siddharth Anand, brings his penchant for grand visuals to "War 2." The film is praised for its stylish sets, slick action choreography, and expansive international locations.

However, some critics have noted that the focus on spectacle comes at the expense of a cohesive and engaging narrative.

The film's lengthy runtime of nearly three hours has also been a point of contention, with some finding the second half to be slow-paced and bloated.

While the action sequences are a visual treat, some reviews have pointed out issues with the VFX in certain scenes.

Audience Verdict: A Mixed Reception

"War 2" has undeniably created a stir at the box office, with an impressive opening day collection of ₹52.5 crore.

The film has been particularly successful in leveraging Jr. NTR's massive fan base in the southern regions of India.

However, audience reactions on social media have been polarized. While many have lauded the film as a "paisa vasool" entertainer, praising the action and the lead performances, others have criticized its predictable plot and uneven pacing.

The film has drawn comparisons to its predecessor, with some fans missing the presence of Tiger Shroff from the original "War."

Overall, "War 2" appears to be a film that delivers on its promise of a grand-scale action spectacle but falls short in providing a fresh and compelling storyline for some viewers.
