Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary has publicly blasted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over its decision to censor a 33‑second kissing scene from the Hollywood film Superman, which released in India on July 11, 2025. She shared her frustration on Instagram, calling the board’s action “absolute nonsense” and criticising the censorship as patronising to audiences .
In a strong social media post, Shreya questioned the logic behind promoting theatrical releases over piracy while simultaneously diminishing the cinematic experience with arbitrary cuts. “Let us decide what we want to watch!!!” she asserted, emphasising that the board’s approach treats the audience like children and risks alienating them from cinemas .
She further remarked:
“What ridiculous crap this is!!! … You are killing this and us by treating us like children.”
Shreya's stance echoes a broader critique of CBFC’s inconsistent and restrictive censorship standards, which many industry voices have argued undermine both artistic integrity and the cinematic experience.
