world-class food processing unit ITC Company made a proposal of setting up in Medak with an investment of Rs.800 crore and also a hotel, with Rs. 1000 crore investments.
ITC will be investing Rs 8000 crore in the state of Telangana. We will expand our paper plant capacity and set up a new hotel in Hyderabad," Deveshwar said during the launch of Telangana's new Industrial policy.
Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, ITC chairman said that, India needs to significantly ramp up manufacturing capacities.
“ITC was the largest paperboard manufacturer in the country, with a capacity of five lakh tonnes, whereas a single machine in China had a capacity to produce one million (10 lakh) tones. We can create jobs if Indian industry becomes competitive. Capital goes to places where it can multiply. If we are not competitive, we will lose out,” said the ITC Chairman.

Telangana set to add 2,500 MW to solar capacity
Providing a big push to solar power generation, the Telangana Government plans to add 2,500 MW solar photo-voltaic power generation capacity by next year.
The State Government, which had invited interest for 2,000 MW of solar power capacity earlier this year, has received overwhelming response with expression of interest to set up more than 6,000 MW solar capacity. It plans to finalise the developers later this month, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.

A man attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze when Telangana BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy was addressing a public meeting in Nalgonda on Wednesday. Barisetti Shankar, 25, a resident of Kesarajupally, poured kerosene on his body and set himself ablaze before rushing on to the dais. Shocked by his actions, BJP activists present there tried to douse the fire.
Shankar was then rushed to the Government Hospital. However, due to the absence of doctors at the Government Hospital, he was shifted to a private hospital in Nalgonda. Mr Kishan Reddy too halted his speech and rushed to the hospital and spoke to Shankar. “Shankar attempted suicide as he was unable to tolerate the land encroachments in his village. I feel very sad that this incident took place. He should have approached me instead of taking this drastic step,” said Mr Reddy.
Mr Reddy also asked the government to provide Shankar free treatment. Mr Reddy said the BJP can take care of the treatment, if the state government did not.

A team of seven researchers (students) from the University of Michigan (UoM), US, have joined hands with the Telangana Government to educate farmers on applying silt from minor irrigation tanks in their fields and to conduct an impact assessment study on the Mission Kakatiya programme.
A few members of the researchers’ team have already visited the State and done some spade work by holding meetings with farmers in a few villages where the tanks have been identified for de-silting this year and meeting the government functionaries.
The seven students from four schools of UoM are guided by two professors with a funding of $100,000 for taking up the research.
“We have explained the importance of silt application in the farm-fields to farmers and about accumulation/sale of carbon credits by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, greenhouse gas emission, in the silt-applied fields to raise international funding to government functionaries,” Adithya Dahagama, a member of the team who is also a native of Khammam district, told The Hindu recently.
