What’s it about!

Chotu (Prabhas) is estranged from his parents at a very young age. He grows up to become a bounty hunter - by handing over criminals to the police and earning money from it. His continues search for finding his real parents (played by Tanikella and Sangeeta) but in vain. He happens to meet a guitar teacher Sameera (Kangana) and love ensues between them. On other hand, a local dada Johnny Bhai (Sonu Sood) hires a killer to shoot off a minister. What is the link between Chotu and Johnny Bhai and how Chotu tries to find his parents is told in rest of the film.

Analysis

If you have seen Puri Jagannadh’s films, you would know his style of presentation and how his heroes behave. By now, we can identify his brand of ‘narration’. Ek Niranjan is simply an excessive fest of clichés - from Puri’s past films. Puri Jagan tries to hold the audiences interest by super dialogues rather than the super script and narration. First half is racy but it suffers heavily in the second half with unnecessary comedy track and lack of driving points in the script. Sonu Sood’s character entirely drives the film. Also the film has resemblance to Chiranjeevi’s Kodama Simham (like Chiru trying to find the whereabouts of his parents; Sudi Gaali character here is played by Deshpande) and also has traces of Bujjigaadu’s plot line. In Bujjigaadu, Bujji’s sole aim is to find his childhood lover. In Ek Niranjan is goal is to search for his parents.

Script wise the movie is nothing but run-of-the mill fare. Only some lighter moments and good songs hold the film’s interest. On the whole it is just any okay movie.

Performances

Prabhas looks stylish and he exudes energy throughout the flick. He has done justice to the role. Kangana who makes her debut in Tollywood with this film does a very glamorous role and her unconventional looks might not go well with the Telugu audiences. But you cannot fault her performance. Sonu Sood steals the show as perverted villain. His characterization itself is novel and Sonu Sood’s performance provides enough laughter in the second half. Brahmaji does equally good with him. Comedy track by Brahmanandam, Ali and Abhinaya Sri is totally waste. Rest of the cast is okay.

Manisharma’s songs are good to hear but they are not that effective on screen. Shaam K Naidu’s cinematography looks richer. Editing by M.R.Verma is not upto standard. Puri Jaganandh once again scores as dialogue writer than director. But it is the time that he should re-check at his selection of scripts. After Pokiri, he has not come up with film that can make him proud or make audiences feel satisfied.

Bottom-line

Ek Niranjan is just an okay film. It can be time pass film.

Ram Charan Teja Geneelia Kajal Film Muhurat

Anjana Productions on Wednesday, the October 21, 2009, launched Ram Charan Teja’s third film at HICC in Hyderabad. This forthcoming film with working title ‘Orange’ is to be directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar and produced by Nagababu featuring Ram Charan Teja, Genelia D’ Souza and Kajal Agarwal.

The star-studded event brought together popular celebrities like Megastar Chiranjeevi, Dasari Narayana Rao, K Raghavendra Rao, D Ramanaidu, Venkatesh, Srikanth, Allu Arjun, Rana, Nikhil, Sivaji, Dil Raju, SS Rajamouli, Puri Jagannath, VV Vinayak, Srinu Vytla, Kodi Ramakrishna, Krish, Chota K Naidu, Surender Reddy, B Gopal, Mehar Ramesh, Sr politician Harirama Jogaiah, Edida Nageswara Rao, C Kalyan, KS Rama Rao, Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, A Kodamrami Reddy, KL Narayana, Shyam Prasad Reddy, Gemini Kiran, Uttej, Brahmaji, KC Sekhar Babu, etc.

K Raghavendra Rao directed the first shot, while Dasari Narayana Rao tapped the clap board and D Ramanaidu switched on the camera. Later a press conference was held to brief the details of the film.

Allu Aravind said that there is massive responsibility on Bhaskar and Ram Charan to live up to the expectations of the audience since Ram Charan’s previous film ‘Magadheera’ was an astounding hit. He added, “Since the movie is going to be made with top technicians, I hope the film will turn up well”.

Nagababu said, “Bhaskar is known for his simple, pure and realistic films with subtle approach. While Ram Charan’s 1st two films ‘Chirutha’ and ‘Magadheera’ were made of mass oriented subject. Having tasted success with this genre, he now wanted to prove himself as an all-rounder. Therefore he now wants to try his hand on a different genre and opted to do a film with Bommarillu Bhaskar. The regular shooting will begin in November with the first schedule in Hyderabad. Then the unit will move on to Australia for its next schedule in December and January. We will wind up the shooting with the final schedule again in Hyderabad. Genelia and Kajal Agarwal are playing the lead ladies. We will announce the remaining cast very soon”.

“I thought my level of responsibility on Ram Charan Teja will grow too big before watching ‘Magadheera’. But now I am pretty confident that I can reach the expectations of the people. The subject I am dealing with is entirely different from that of ‘Magadheera’, hence I will be portraying Ram Charan on a different angle. I am grateful to Nagababu for supporting me in getting good technicians. This is the 3rd film for Ram Charan and me as well. So it is going to be more challenging for us as we are looking for a hat trick”, said Bommarillu Bhaskar.

Ram Charan revealed, “As you all know my first two films are of mass oriented subjects. Since I do not want to do films in stereotype, I have chosen a romantic subject. Bhaskar has a good grip on such subjects, so I decided to do my next film with film after ‘Magadheera’. We were discussing about this project during the making of ‘Magadheera’ and finally I approached my uncle Nagababu with the idea because he is the one who is close to me after my parents. He too liked my idea of doing films from different genres and immediately gave his nod after listening to the script. I am delighted to do a film on his banner”.
