Acclaimed actress Tannishtha Chatterjee has bravely revealed that she is battling stage 4 oligo metastatic cancer. In a candid and moving Instagram post on Sunday, the "Parched" and "Brick Lane" star shared her diagnosis and her journey over the past eight months, choosing to focus on a message of "love and strength" rather than pain.
Chatterjee shared two powerful photographs with her announcement.
The first shows her with a shaved head, smiling warmly, while the second is a heartwarming picture of her surrounded by close friends, including industry colleagues like Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza, Shabana Azmi, and Konkona Sen Sharma.
In her heartfelt caption, the 44-year-old actress disclosed that she was diagnosed eight months ago, a period made even more difficult as she had already lost her father to cancer.
She wrote, "So the last 8 months have been incredibly difficult- to put it mildly. As if losing my father to Cancer was not enough. 8 months back I got diagnosed of stage 4 oligo metastatic Cancer."
Despite the immense challenges, including being the sole provider for her nine-year-old daughter and 70-year-old mother, Chatterjee's post is a testament to her resilience. "But this post is not about Pain. Its about love and strength," she asserted.
Chatterjee expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support of her friends and family, whom she credits with bringing "genuine smiles to my face, even on the hardest days."
She celebrated her "female friendships, the sisterhood that showed up for me with fierce love, deep empathy, and unstoppable strength."
Her powerful message has been met with an outpouring of love and support from colleagues and fans.
Dia Mirza commented, "We love you Tan Tan. You are our very own warrior princess," while Konkona Sen Sharma wrote, "You are just incredible and inspiring!! Love you."
Oligo-metastatic cancer is considered an intermediate stage where the cancer has spread from its original site but only to a limited number of new locations.
This can sometimes allow for more targeted treatments.
