Eros Sues Aanand L Rai For Rs 84 Crore Over Raanjhanaa Copyright Infringement In Tere Ishk Mein

  • Eros sues Aanand L Rai for Rs 84 crore over Raanjhanaa copyright infringement in Tere Ishk Mein.
  • In a major development shaking the Bollywood film industry, Eros International has filed a lawsuit against filmmaker Aanand L Rai, demanding Rs 84 crore in damages over alleged Raanjhanaa copyright infringement in his upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein. The legal battle has sparked widespread discussion across the entertainment world.
  • According to reports, Eros International, which holds the intellectual property rights to the 2013 hit film Raanjhanaa, claims that Tere Ishk Mein unlawfully uses core elements of the original movie without proper authorization. The production house has alleged that the storyline, character arcs, and emotional themes in Tere Ishk Mein bear a striking resemblance to Raanjhanaa, thereby violating copyright laws.
  • Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raanjhanaa starred Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor and went on to become a cult romantic drama. Eros argues that despite Rai’s association with the original film, the rights remain exclusively with the studio, making any derivative or spiritual sequel legally questionable. The lawsuit reportedly states that Tere Ishk Mein was promoted in a way that directly connects it to Raanjhanaa, misleading audiences.
  • On the other hand, sources close to Aanand L Rai suggest that Tere Ishk Mein is a fresh narrative and not a sequel or remake. However, the absence of an official agreement has intensified the dispute.
  • As Eros sues Aanand L Rai for Rs 84 crore, the case highlights the growing importance of copyright ownership in Bollywood, potentially setting a crucial legal precedent for future film projects.

Aanand L Rai Slams Eros International for AI-Altered Re-Release of Raanjhanaa: Calls It Creative Integrity Violation

Acclaimed director Aanand L Rai has taken a strong stand against Eros International for re-releasing Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered ending, calling the move a “violation of creative integrity.” The original 2013 film, starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, and Abhay Deol, was widely praised for its emotional depth and tragic climax.

However, the new version reportedly features a digitally modified ending created using artificial intelligence — a decision that has angered the filmmaker and sparked widespread debate in the film community.

Rai stated that the re-release was done without his consent, emphasizing that tampering with the original narrative undermines the artistic vision and emotional core of the film.

"Using AI to alter the climax of a story that connected so deeply with audiences is not only unethical but a betrayal of the creative team behind it," said Aanand L Rai.

The controversy has ignited fresh discussions around the ethical use of AI in cinema, especially when it comes to altering original content without the creator’s approval.

Many in the industry have rallied behind Rai, supporting his claim that such changes are a dangerous precedent for artistic expression and filmmaker rights.

As the backlash grows, all eyes are now on Eros International and whether they will respond or retract the AI-modified version. The incident underscores the urgent need for clear guidelines regarding the use of AI in Indian cinema, particularly for classic or culturally significant films like Raanjhanaa.
