In a major development shaking the Bollywood film industry, Eros International has filed a lawsuit against filmmaker Aanand L Rai, demanding Rs 84 crore in damages over alleged Raanjhanaa copyright infringement in his upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein. The legal battle has sparked widespread discussion across the entertainment world.
According to reports, Eros International, which holds the intellectual property rights to the 2013 hit film Raanjhanaa, claims that Tere Ishk Mein unlawfully uses core elements of the original movie without proper authorization. The production house has alleged that the storyline, character arcs, and emotional themes in Tere Ishk Mein bear a striking resemblance to Raanjhanaa, thereby violating copyright laws.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raanjhanaa starred Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor and went on to become a cult romantic drama. Eros argues that despite Rai’s association with the original film, the rights remain exclusively with the studio, making any derivative or spiritual sequel legally questionable. The lawsuit reportedly states that Tere Ishk Mein was promoted in a way that directly connects it to Raanjhanaa, misleading audiences.
On the other hand, sources close to Aanand L Rai suggest that Tere Ishk Mein is a fresh narrative and not a sequel or remake. However, the absence of an official agreement has intensified the dispute.
